Friends of Music Mourn - Blair Konn (1931-2014)

First Congregational Church’s Friends of Music mourn the death of Blair Konn, who passed away Friday, July 25, 2014. He was born March 17, 1931, in Saginaw, to the late Charles and Beulah Konn.

Blair was a 1949 graduate of Arthur Hill High School, and he attended Michigan State University as a piano major. He joined the United States Air Force and retired as Senior Master Sargent after serving for twenty years. He displayed his love of playing organ for church services all over the world while serving in the Air Force. After retiring he sold, installed, and serviced church organs. On July 1, 2009, he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Faunce. She survives him. Blair joined the First Congregational Church, where he was a member of the Chancel Choir, Chancel Bells, and the Organ Committee.  He served on the church’s board. He was a member of the Saginaw Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Konn performed at the May 18, 2014, dedication of the restored Skinner organ.

Konn’s funeral service will take place at on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at First Congregational Church, 403 S. Jefferson Ave. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider First Congregational Church or the Saginaw County Humane Society.

Facade Pipes Installed

Six new facade pipes are installed and return the organ's main case to its 1928 form.

ATOS: Member of the Year, Kenneth and Harriet Wuepper

Congratulations to Kenneth and Harriet Wuepper, Friends of Music and members of First Congregational Church, on receiving the ATOS honor Member of the Year.  The designation was conferred at the national convention of the American Theatre Organ Society in Indianapolis, Indiana, July 4-9.  The photo is courtesy of Jon Best.
